Thankful Thursday

Happy Thankful Thursday!  I am so thankful for everyone and for being patient with the blog this week.  It has been crazy after school and the last two nights I have not updated the blog, sorry.  Here is a look at the week!

In reading, we have been having a LOT of discussion on our theme question "How do we achieve common ground" and our weekly question "What do we share across cultures".  We have been learning about a lot of things that are shared across cultures such as fairy tales/folk tales, music, dancing, festivals/celebrations, stories, activities (jump roping), wedding/funerals, feelings, food, and instruments. Our comprehension strategy that we have been focusing on is identifying the main idea and a supporting detail.  They have been doing great with this!  Some things to remember when identifying important information (main idea) is:
* Look for key words
* Look for clues about important ideas in text features
* Carefully read the first and last sentences in each paragraph
* Stop at sections and ask questions about important ideas and details

In math this week we have been ordering/comparing decimals (start at the left and compare to the right, starting with the whole numbers) and rounding whole numbers and decimals.  Everyday in math we take notes and do examples in our math notebooks which can be used at all times and taken home if needed.  I attached a video about rounding decimals and they have the words to the song in their math notebooks.
