Persuading Thursday

This morning Mrs. Neese came in and visited with us about safety and not going with strangers along with how to protect ourselves.  It is really important to not go with ANYONE we don't know no matter what!
We did some oreo trivia, see if you know any of the oreo facts:
1. The oreo was created in 1912, the same year the South Pole was discovered and the Titanic sank.
2. The floral design on the oreo cookie consists of 12 flowers per side.
3. Oreo has a street named after it in New York City called -Oreo Way-.
4. If every oreo cookie ever made were stacked on top of each other (more than 481 billion...), the pile would reach to the moon and back more than five times. Then again, if placed side-by-side, they would encircle the Earth 381 times at the equator.
5. 50 percent of all oreo eaters pull apart their cookie before eating, with woman twisting them open more often then men.

Reading was a lot of fun with our persuasive speeches on "The BEST way to eat an oreo".  They all did a fantastic job and am proud of them for being so creative and for getting up in front of their peers!  You ROCK 5th graders! I attached a smilebox of all the speeches along with a fun oreo song we listened to. For math, we talked about division patterns.  For example 12,000 divided by 4, if we know 12 divided by 4= 3, all we do is add the zeros from 12,000 to know that 12,000 divided by 4= 3,000.  We took math notes and did some practice with this!  At the end of the day we did social studies and worked with determining location with latitude and longitude.  Tomorrow we get to make oreo sculptures!  Remember that book orders are due tomorrow and school pictures are tomorrow! For $20 tomorrow tell me how you eat oreos!
