Tu Tu Tuesday

Happy Tu Tu Tuesday!!!  Today was a busy day!  We started off with Health Enhancement and then had a GREAT discussion in reading about our focus question this week, "What was life like for Native Americans before new settlers arrived?".  We discussed the three main groups of colonies and why they came to America.  We used our vocabulary words resource, prosper, abundant, and artifact to explain the reasons. The settlers learned a lot from the Native Americans such as how to farm new and different crops and they acted as guides and interpreters.  The plains people were dependent upon the existence of the buffalo for food, building materials, clothing, tools, and many everyday items.  We will be doing a lot of social studies in our reading the next 4 weeks! We practiced with "ask and answer".  Readers ask themselves questions before they read, while they read, and after they read to help them reach a deeper understanding.  They find the answers in the text and can use their own experiences. In math, we worked with dividing money by 2-digit divisors.  It is important to ALWAYS remember to bring up the dollar sign, decimal, and pay attention to the place value of the digits!  We practice with this and will continue with dividing with decimals tomorrow. For science we started with the 3 states of matter.  Everything found on Earth can be grouped into one of the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.  In order to figure out the state of matter an object fits in, we have to examine its properties. The properties we look at are shape, mass, and volume.  The atoms in a solid are packed closely together and do not change shape.  The atoms in a liquid are close together and slide around.  The atoms in  a gas are spread out and move freely!

For $50 tomorrow, give me one solid, liquid, and gas
