Mustache Monday

Happy Mustache Monday! I was so happy to see all my AMAZING 5th graders this morning and hear all about their weekends.  At 9:00 we had art and they drew an animal using value.  There are some great artists in this class! We had our spelling pretest to know what words we need to study for our homework tonight.  Our rule is vowel sounds /oo/ and /yoo/.  For reading, we discussed our homework which was to find out what our culture was and if we eat any particular foods from our culture or celebrate any holidays that are part of our culture.  It was a lot of fun to hear everyone talk about their culture  and find common ground among each other.  Then we reviewed reading strategies and practiced them while reading " Sheep Dogs".  For math today, we had an assessment for a grade over multiplying/dividing decimals by 10,100,1000.  We have been practicing this a lot and reviewed before doing the assessment.  It is really important we read numbers correctly, for example, 4.23, read it four and twenty three hundredths, NOT four decimal two three.   We did a little social studies this afternoon and reviewed reading a map and identifying the great plains of the United States.  We ended our day with Health Enhancement.

Starting this week,  there will be nightly homework and I will try to be consistent with the following:
Monday: Read 30 minutes, fill in reading log, and practice spelling words
Tuesday: Read 30 minutes, fill in reading log, comprehension practice
Wednesday: Read 30 minutes, fill in reading log, practice worksheet as needed
Thursday: Read 30 minutes, fill in reading log, math review
Friday, Saturday, Sunday: Complete reading log for extra credit.
ANYTHING else brought home is work that was not finished in class.  Please call me if you have any concerns regarding homework.  Homework will help develop good study habits and prepare them for junior high and high school : )
