The beginning of this week, we wrapped up our "Swap" stories and it was fun to read what they would swap, and what for!
In reading, we talked about the mood and tone of writing. The mood of a selection is the feeling the author creates using the story details, the setting, and images. The tone of a selection is the attitude, or opinion, the author has toward the subject. We also talked about test taking strategies and then applied them through a 4 question assessment. When we are not sure about an answer to a multiple-choice item, mark the item and return to it later after checking the text. It is important to GO BACK AND REREAD!! We also took our spelling test and a lot of us realized that we need to start taking the time to study throughout the week! For math, we reviewed dividing whole numbers by 2-digit divisors and then did 4 problems independently for practice. Next week we will be getting into dividing with larger numbers. We had fun with 20 questions during team building and then for buddies we helped our 1-2 grade buddy disguise a turkey. These 5th graders are incredible role models and mentors, I am so proud of ALL of them!!
At the end of the day, we celebrated Ilyssa. She shared with us some Canadian money, her favorite stuffed animal from when she was little, her planner from last year, her favorite barbie from when she was little, goggles because she LOVES swimming, coupons she got from last year, licorice from Canada that she shared with the class, and her favorite book from when she was little "Puckerup Buttercup". Ilyssa's favorite food is pizza/chicken nuggets, favorite color is lime green, she likes Skittles, her favorite thing to do is play outside, she likes elephants, she came to the United States from Canada when she was 9 years old, and she can wiggle her eyes. We enjoyed learning more about Ilyssa and we are thankful she is part of our class family.
For $50 Monday, tell me what branch of the military Mr. English is in.........
