It was SO nice to see everyone again this morning and I have to say that it was nice for it to get lighter outside earlier! We started our morning off with Daily Language Review and then our morning meeting before having art. For reading, we took our spelling pretest over compound words and then discussed the elections for president. Tomorrow is the day to vote, but we voted today so that I can get the results of our votes up to see before we really find out who our president is. I attached a great website to the right that gives lots of information about each candidate if any 5th grader wants to learn more about each one. Everyone was full of lots of questions. We also read the book "Do you Want to be President? by Judith St. George and David Small while discussing past presidents. We will dive into our reading tomorrow with our focus question "What happens when scientists make discoveries?". For math today we did "Dividing by multiples of 10". We looked at the pattern, took math notes, and did practice on our white boards.
240 divided by 30 (3 goes into 24, 8 times)=8
2,400 dividing by 30 ( 3 goes into 24, 8 times and then add a 0)=80
We ended our day with health enhancement.
Important information:
I sent home a "Veteran" star to complete and bring back to add to our wall of hero's to celebrate Veteran's day. Please put the name of the veteran, the branch they are/were in, and how you are related to them or know them. I also sent home either a white or red piece of paper to trace their left hand on and cut out. Then on their hand write what America means to them. We are going to make a flag with all of our hands and then give to the Marines who come and talk to us next Tuesday for Veteran's Day.
I also sent home "Tom the Turkey" to disguise. We will be writing stories on how Tom escaped the turkey farm and what he disguised himself as. Please disguise Tom as anything so that he doesn't get recognized and return by Friday in the folder so no one in the class sees him. We will be writing a story about him next week and the class will have to guess which turkey is whose by listening to the story.
